The Mars girls basketball team joined the boys team in reaching the 5A state championship game following a 52-39 victory over Archbishop Carroll Saturday in the semifinals. The Planets will meet Archbishop Wood in the PIAA title game Wednesday at the Giant Center in Hershey. Tipoff is 6pm.
Archbishop Wood defeated Southern Lehigh 59-39 Saturday in the other state semifinal.
The Mars boys basketball team will meet Abington Heights in the 5A title game Tuesday in Hershey at 8pm. Mars becomes the sixth WPIAL school in history to send both a boys and girls team to the state finals.
The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls lost to Berks Catholic 56-47 Saturday in the PIAA 4A semifinals.
The Pine-Richland boys lost to Roman Catholic 81-73 in overtime Saturday in the PIAA 6A semifinals.
The Seneca Valley hockey team lost 4-0 to St. Joseph’s Prep Saturday in the 3A Pennsylvania Cup championship game.
Armstrong fell to Downington East 3-2 in FIVE overtimes in the 2A championship game. It was the longest game in Pennsylvania Cup championship history.
The Butler boys volleyball team won the Norwin Tournament Saturday. Butler defeated Seton-LaSalle 1-0 in the quarterfinals, Hempfield 1-0 in the semifinals, and Bethel Park 1-0 in the championship match.
