The Washington Nationals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7 in 10-innings Thursday afternoon at PNC Park. James Wood singled in the automatic runner in the top of the 10th inning.
Jake Mangum led the Pirates with three hits and scored twice. Oneil Cruz, Brandon Lowe and Konnor Griffin all had two hits each. Marcel Ozuna hit his first home run as a Pirate, a three-run shot in the fourth inning.
The Bucs had the lead just once in the game, and had to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. They left 10 men on base in the game.
Brandon Ashcraft pitched 5-2/3rds innings, allowing five runs, but only two earned. He walked two and struck out seven. The Pirates committed four errors in the game.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays tonight at PNC Park. Game time is 6:45pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:20pm .
Saturday’s game begins at 4:05pm.
