Denny Hamlin overcame an opening-lap penalty from the pole position to win the Cup Series race in Nashville early this morning. Hamlin led a Joe Gibbs Racing sweep of the top three spots. Christopher Bell was the runner-up, followed by Chase Briscoe.
Hamlin’s victory was his 62nd career win. He is now one victory from tying Kyle Busch for ninth all-time on the Cup Series career wins list. The drivers head to Michigan International Speedway this Sunday.
The start of last night’s race was delayed by rain by almost 90 minutes, pushing the finish into the midnight hour on the east coast.
