The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Houston Astros 10-6 last night in the opening game of a three-game series. The Bucs hit three home runs in the game. Endy Rodriguez hit his first home run of the year in the second inning. He later added a double. Oneil Cruz hit his 14th home run of the year in the sixth inning. Brandon Lowe hit his team-leading 15th home run in the eighth inning. All three drove in three runs a piece.
Bubba Chandler earned the win. He allowed four runs, three earned over five innings. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out three.
The Bucs and Astros play again tonight at 8:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:45pm. Paul Skenes will start for the Pirates.
Last night’s victory was the Pirates fourth in a row. They are now 33-28 and have moved into second place in the National League Central Division. They remain 5-1/2 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers, who have won three games in a row, but they are now tied with San Diego for the top Wild Card playoff positions.
