The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Baby Penguins defeated the Toronto Marlies 4-3 last night in the Calder Cup Eastern Conference Final Series. Rutger McGroarty scored the game-winner with just under three minutes remaining in the game. Sergei Murashov stopped 32 of 35 shots in net for the Baby Penguins. He is now 8-5 during this post-season.
The series is now tied at 2-2 with each team winning both games on the road. The series continues in Toronto Friday night for Game 5. Game 6 and a potential Game 7 would be in Wilkes-Barre, with Game 6 Sunday.
Carolina will host Vegas tonight in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Game time is 8pm.
Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper has won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s Coach of the Year. Penguins coach Dan Muse was one of the three finalists for the award, along with Buffalo’s Lindy Ruff. Muse was the 19th rookie coach to become a finalist. The Penguins tied a franchise record with 98 points under a rookie coach.
