PIAA Semifinals:
The Mars boys lacrosse team defeated Lampeter-Strasburg 9-6 in the Class 2A semifinals Tuesday and the Planets have reached the state championship game again. Jack Tirch scored seven of the nine goals for Mars. The Planets will meet Penncrest at Penn State’s Panzer Stadium Saturday at 12:30pm in the title game. Penncrest defeated Twin Valley 9-8 in five overtimes in the other semifinal.
Mars is the only team from Western Pennsylvania to have won a state title in boys lacrosse, doing so in 2022. They have had runner-up finishes three times, in 2021, 2023 and 2024.
The North Allegheny boys volleyball team shutout Butler 3-0 last night in the state Class 3A semifinals. The Tigers move into the Class 3A state championship game Saturday afternoon against Landisville Hempfield. It was the 16th consecutive sweep this season for undefeated North Allegheny, who have not lost a set all year. They will be seeking their 10th state title, which would tie Hempfield from Western Pennsylvania for the most all-time.
