The Pittsburgh Pirates battled back from an early four-run deficit to defeat the Athletics 6-5 last night. Bryan Reynolds homered from both sides of the plate and Brandon Lowe hit the game-winner in the top of the ninth inning.
Mason Montgomery earned the victory. He did not allow a hit in the eighth inning, striking out two. Gregory Soto closed out the ninth inning to earn his 11th save. Four Pirate relievers did not allow a run over the final 3-2/3rd innings.
Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller allowed five runs, four earned on five hits while striking out seven over 5-1/3rd innings. He allowed four runs in the first inning.
Reynolds extended his on-base streak to 23 games, the second-longest current run in the majors. He had four hits in the game last night. He drove in three and scored three times. Ryan O’Hearn added three hits.
The Bucs and Athletics complete their series tonight at 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:15pm. Braxton Ashcraft will start for the Pirates, who got back to the .500 mark with last night’s win. They are now 37-37. They are nine back of first-place Milwaukee and two out of a Wild Card spot.
