The Penguins made a trade Thursday. The Pens acquired center Hendrix Lapierre from the Washington Capitals on Thursday in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-rounder – which originally belonged to San Jose. The Capitals took Lapierre 22nd overall in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. Lapierre has played 158 NHL games, including 74 last season, when he had four goals and 12 assists. The 24-year old forward helped the Hershey Bears win back-to-back Calder Cups in 2023 and 2024, earning the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the AHL’s playoff MVP for the second of those titles. Lapierre is set to be a restricted free agent on July 1st, so the Penguins will presumably offer him a new contract.
