The Pirates traded International bonus pool money to San Diego Thursday in exchange for reliever Ron Marinaccio. To make room on the roster for him, the Pirates designated reliever Dennis Santana for assignment. The 31-year old Marinaccio had a 4.79 ERA over 33 appearances this year with the Padres. He had struggled in recent appearances, and was designated for assignment by San Diego on Sunday. As for Santana, he had a 6.05 ERA over 41-2/3rds innings this season.
