The Pirates are going to honor one of their more popular players from more than a decade ago in August as he retires from baseball. Josh Harrison will retire as a Pirate on August 7th, and will be honored the next day prior to the game with the New York Mets. He will throw out the first pitch for that game.
“J-Hay” was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in 2009, and spent the first eight seasons of his 13-year MLB career with the Bucs. He had a breakout season in 2014, when he was second in the National League batting race with a .315 average. He had 13 home runs and 18 stolen bases, and made his first of two career All-Star appearances. The 39-year old Harrison also played in the majors with Philadelphia in 2023. Many fans remember an infamous moment when it looked like he was picked off in a game and managed to escape.
