The Smashing Pumpkins delivered a night of surprises at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre on Wednesday during their Lollapalooza pre-show. Brady Bunch star Barry Williams joined Billy Corgan onstage to perform “It’s A Sunshine Day,” the classic sitcom tune. Former Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf der Maur also reunited with the band, closing the show with “The Everlasting Gaze.” The band also performed “Thirty-Three” for the first time since 2018 and gave “War Dreams of Itself” its live debut. Smashing Pumpkins return to Lollapalooza on Friday, their first appearance at the iconic festival in 32 years, with the show streaming live on Hulu and Disney+. Story URL
Alice In Chains are releasing a 30th anniversary edition of their celebrated MTV Unplugged performance. Due September 25th, the reissue arrives on CD and double LP, including a limited “solar flare” colored vinyl. A ruby vinyl variant is available exclusively through BrooklynVegan. The original performance, recorded April 10th, 1996, marked the band’s first show in over two years following vocalist Layne Staley’s severe addiction struggles. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell contracted food poisoning just before broadcast. Initially met with lukewarm reviews, the recording has since been recognized as one of MTV Unplugged’s greatest performances.
