The Pirates have lost infield prospect Termarr Johnson for the season. Johnson was running out a ground ball Saturday when he suffered a significant left leg injury. He is the Pirates #-10 prospect and is a second baseman for Triple-A Indianapolis. The 22-year old Johnson is a former first-round draft pick, taken fourth overall in 2022. He has struggled at Indianapolis this season, batting .199 with eight home runs and 37 RBI’s.
Johnson’s future with the his team could be in question. He is not currently on the Pirates 40-man roster, and would be eligible for the Rule 5 draft in the off-season for the first time in his career. The team would have to add him to their roster to protect his status with the organization, or another team could select him.
