The Miami Marlins defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 last night in the opening game of a three-game series in Florida. The Bucs failed to reach second base in the game. Paul Skenes went six innings, allowing both runs, but only one was earned. He was pulled after just 65 pitches, the fewest he has thrown since mid-April. He allowed five hits, striking out four and walking one batter. The earned run was when he allowed a home run in the third inning.
The top five batters in the Pirates lineup failed to collect a hit. The Pirates had two errors. Both by the Gonzalez infielders.
The Pirates have now lost 14 of their last 19 games, and have fallen five games under .500 at 58-63.
The two teams play again tonight at 6:40pm. WISR pre-game is 6:15pm. Carmen Mlodzinski will start for the Pirates.
