The Pitt women’s volleyball team, ranked #4 in the nation, opened their season Sunday with a 3-1 win over #3-ranked Wisconsin at the First Serve tournament in Milwaukee. They improved to 2-0 Monday with a 3-0 sweep of Xavier. The Panthers are led by All-American senior Olivia Babcock. Pitt will host the “Opening Spike” tournament this weekend at the Petersen Events Center.
The Butler County Community College women’s volleyball team also opened their season with a pair of sweeps over Erie County Community College in Buffalo Saturday. Madelyn Nosel made her BC3 debut with a team-leading 21 kills in the doubleheader. Sarah Lucas had 33 digs and Teagan Fortuna had 27 assists. BC3 won matches by scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 23-8, then 25-21, 25-10, 24-26 (27-25).
The Lady Pioneers are coming off a 24-2 season last year and an appearance in the national tournament.
