At the Little League World Series in Williamsport Tuesday:
–The team from Hamilton, Ohio eliminated New Jersey 5-2.
–Alabama remained alive with a 4-2 win over the team from Tacoma, Washington.
–Canada ousted South Korea 5-1 and Japan eliminated Mexico 3-1.
Today will be split between the winners bracket and more elimination games:
–In the winners bracket — Curacao will meet Nicaragua at 1pm with the winner moving into the International Championship game Saturday. Nevada and Iowa play at 3pm for a spot in the United States championship.
In the elimination games — Canada and Japan meet at 5pm. Alabama and Ohio play at 7pm.
Kinley Rasmus of the team from Phenix City, Alabama broke the record for most total hits by a girl in the tournament, with five. The 12-year old is a shortstop and pitcher for the Alabama team. She is one of two girls competing in this year’s tournament in Williamsport. She broke the girls Little League World Series mark for single-game strikeouts record of eight last week in her team’s opening-round loss to Tacoma, Washington. She had allowed just one hit in six scoreless innings in that game. She was back on the mound on Monday of this week and added six strikeouts to her record-tying tournament total of 14 K’s. Kinley is the daughter of former MLB pitcher Cory Rasmus. Cory is a coach on the team, which is managed by his brother Case.
