Guitar legend Carlos Santana sparked backlash after offering questionable medical advice during his August 24th show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Performing on his “Oneness Tour,” Santana told the crowd, “If you wanna make sure that in your life you never have cancer, it’s important that you remember this. Grievances cause cancer… So it’s important that you let it go and forgive. Let go of that shit. Let it go, and you will be clean. I promise you, you will be clean.” He also claimed a cancer specialist told him he “never met anyone that had cancer that didn’t have grievances.” While many fans cheered, Reddit users quickly pushed back, calling the remarks misguided and dangerously close to victim-blaming those diagnosed with the disease. Bad Wolves guitarist AJ Rebollo has resigned from the band, citing the label’s decision to release a heavy metal cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” as the breaking point. Rebollo says the band collectively opposed releasing the track following Parton’s recent death, fearing it would appear exploitative. He called the label’s decision to proceed anyway the “final nail in the coffin.” The cover, set for release August 31st, was originally planned to feature Parton’s vocals before her passing. Profits will be donated to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Rebollo also cited ongoing harassment and lack of creative autonomy as contributing factors. Bad Wolves have faced additional turmoil recently, after being dropped from Skillet’s upcoming tour. Story URL
