The Slippery Rock University football team moved up one spot to No. 10 in this week’s NCAA Division II national rankings when the American Football Coaches Association released its updated national poll Monday.
The Rock began the year outside the top 25 but have soared all the way up to No. 10 after four weeks. SRU jumped into the poll at No. 18 after opening the season with an upset win over then 12th ranked Minnesota Duluth in week zero before leaping five spots to No. 13 after an idle week. SRU then jumped two more places to No. 11 after a road win at East Stroudsburg and slides up one more place to crack the top 10 this week after a win at Millersville.
This marks the seventh straight season SRU has been ranked in the top 10. The Rock will visit Cal Saturday.
Rock running back Jay Jay Jordan has repeated as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his program record-tying five touchdowns Saturday in Slippery Rock’s 70-10 win over Millersville. Jordan had 142 yards on the ground before leaving the game early as The Rock put second and third-string players into the game.
Jordan’s five touchdowns and 30 total points in the game tied a pair of school records, matching Mike Kish and Marcus Johnson. Kish ran for five touchdowns against Waynesburg in 1971 and Johnson caught four touchdowns and returned a kick for another score against Gannon in 2017.
Through three games this fall, Jordan leads the PSAC in every rushing metric and ranks No. 1 among all players in Division II in both scoring (20.0 points per game) and rushing touchdowns (9). He has run for 393 yards and nine touchdowns while catching seven passes for 51 yards and one score in Slippery Rock’s 3-0 start.
