The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0 last night in an opening game of a three-game series. Eduardo Rodriguez limited the Bucs to two hits over his seven innings. Konnor Griffin and Jared Triolo managed a double each in the game, but the Pirates were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Bubba Chandler took the loss. He allowed two runs on two hits over five innings, but walked six. His record fell to 1-4. Reliever Yohan Ramirez allowed five earned runs in the sixth inning.
The Bucs and Diamondbacks play again tonight at 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:15pm. Paul Skenes will start for the Pirates.
The Pirates played the game last night without manager Don Kelly, and without the services of reliever Chris Devenski. Both served Major League Baseball suspensions for an incident in the Cincinnati series. Devenski was suspended for two games for throwing at Reds rookie Sal Stewart during the Pirates 17-7 win Saturday. Kelly was forced to sit out last night’s game.
