The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting today that former Butler high school girls basketball coach Jonna Burke is leaving the high school ranks to take over the women’s basketball program at Bethany College in West Virginia. Bethany is a Division III athletic school. Burke began her high school coaching career at Butler, spending eight years leading the Golden Tornado girls before taking the job at her alma mater, Bethel Park. She compiled a record of 360-107 at Bethel Park over 18 years and won one WPIAL title. With a teaching job available, she moved on to Shady Side Academy. She won two WPIAL titles over her five years there, going 114-24. Burke is three wins shy of 600 career victories at the high school level. Her 31-year total in high school is 597-220.
