Sublime will release their first new album since 1996, Until the Sun Explodes, on June 12th, featuring Jakob Nowell on vocals alongside original members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh. Jakob, Bradley Nowell’s son who got sober in 2017, initially planned limited involvement but found himself “deeper and deeper in” the project. The album includes guests like H.R. from Bad Brains, Pennywise’s Fletcher Dragge, and G Love. Opening track “Ensenada” dominated Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart for two months in 2024. Jakob and his team created comprehensive research documents analyzing every aspect of Sublime’s catalog before writing. “The last true Sublime record will be the self-titled, hands down,” Jakob said, calling this “the epilogue.” Gaugh praised Jakob’s approach: “He totally reminds me of a sober version of Brad.” The band plans Red Rocks shows and a traveling festival. Poison drummer Rikki Rockett’s long-awaited memoir Ghost Notes: My Life In Poison will arrive this summer through Rare Bird Books. Written with Leif Eriksson and Martin Svensson, the book’s cover was unveiled Wednesday on social media. The 64-year-old musician, born Richard Allan Ream, explained the title references drumming techniques producers banned during Poison’s early career and represents “all the stuff in between” major headlines. Rockett said the memoir focuses on untold stories from the band’s Pennsylvania origins rather than well-known Sunset Strip tales. “What’s more interesting is our years in the tri-state area and Pennsylvania and all the crap we went through trying to play gigs,” he stated. The book covers difficult periods including his cancer battle and false rape accusations. Poison has sold over 50 million records worldwide with hits like “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” Story URL
Veteran drummer Terry Cox, who worked with David Bowie, Elton John, and the Bee Gees, died at age 89. Cox’s Pentangle bandmates confirmed his death, calling him a “drummer of rare instinct and imagination.” Born March 13, 1937, in Buckinghamshire, England, Cox reportedly died in Spain where he owned a restaurant. No cause of death was provided. Cox played on Bowie’s hit version of “Space Oddity” alongside bassist Herbie Flowers and keyboardist Rick Wakeman. He also appeared on Elton John’s gold-selling 1970 self-titled album and 1971’s Madman Across the Water. Cox worked with Pentangle from 1967-73 and through various reunions starting in the early 1980s. His jazz background influenced his patient drumming style, emphasizing space over fills. Cox also recorded with Rick Springfield, Alexis Korner, and wrote songs with Alan Parsons Project collaborator Lenny Zakatek. Story URL
Los Angeles police commissioners ruled Tuesday that three officers acted improperly when they shot true-crime author Jillian Lauren in April 2025. Two officers and one sergeant violated department policy during the incident. Lauren, estranged wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was wounded after emerging from her Eagle Rock home with a handgun during an unrelated police investigation of a hit-and-run crash. She fired toward officers before being shot and retreating inside her residence. Lauren later came outside and was arrested, then hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. In September, Superior Court Judge Susan DeWitt granted Lauren mental health diversion for two years. She must attend therapy, avoid drugs and alcohol, surrender firearms, and submit quarterly progress reports. Successful completion will result in case dismissal, while violations could terminate the diversion program. Story URL
