Local residents will see water system infrastructure improvements as a result of a low-interest loan through the state.
Pennsylvania American Water Company has been approved for $28.5 million through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (also known as PENNVEST), which awards money for major infrastructure improvement projects.
The funding will allow for filter improvements at the Butler Water Treatment Plant. The project also includes the demolition of three aging purification units, the construction of a new treatment building and concrete tank structure, the rerouting of process piping and chemical feed lines, and electrical and control systems modifications.
This project is part of nearly $550 million PENNVEST is directing to 23 counties across the state to provide funding for design, engineering, and construction of publicly and privately owned water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as stormwater and wastewater projects.
