The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Tuesday that they are relaunching the team’s Hall of Fame, and over the next three years. 10 key figures in team history will be honored. The Penguins’ Hall of Fame had been stagnant for a dozen years, with its last class of players, builders and contributors enshrined in 2013.
Presently, the Hall of Fame includes 20 people, but a number of Penguins legends have been waiting to go in. The 21-member voting committee settled on six players and four builders. The players picked for enshrinement at some point in the next three years are Tom Barrasso, Ron Francis, Jaromir Jagr, Chris Kunitz, Larry Murphy and Kevin Stevens. The builders are Scotty Bowman, Eddie Johnston, Jim Rutherford and Ray Shero.
The specific honorees and a date is to be announced – but the team also announced that for the first time ever – there will be a physical Hall of Fame space on the main concourse of PPG Paints Arena for fans to visit.
