The Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the New York Islanders 5-4 in overtime last night. Bryan Rust scored his 19th goal of the season in the second period in his first game back from an NHL suspension. That goal gave the Penguins a 3-2 lead. The Pens retook the lead halfway through the third period when Justin Brazeau scored his 15th goal of the year, but the Islanders tied the game five minutes later. They went on to win the game less than a minute into the overtime.
The Penguins outshot the Islanders 35-23, but goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped just 18 of the Islanders 23 shots.
It was the Pens second loss in a row, but by gaining a point in the game, they remain one point in front of the Islanders for second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Penguins have played two less games than New York.
The Pens visit the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night in their final game prior to the three-week Olympic break. Buffalo fell 4-3 in overtime to Tampa Bay last night.
