The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Washington Capitals 3-1 last night. It was their first loss in six games at PPG Paints Arena this season. The Pens were held scoreless until Zach Aston-Reese scored his third goal of the year with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Tristan Jarry stopped 39 of 42 shots on goal last night in net. The Pens went 0-for-3 on the power play, but held Washington scoreless in five tries.
Defenseman Marcus Pettersson returned from injured reserve for the first time in a month and played last night. Goaltender Casey DeSmith also returned from an illness and was the back-up for Jarry.
The Pens host the New York Islanders Thursday night for a 7pm face-off. They will play the Islanders four times over their next six games, a stretch which includes two games in Washington.
