The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Texas Rangers 8-3 Sunday afternoon at PNC Park, and avoided a three-game series sweep by the Rangers. The Bucs had 15 hits in the game, their second-most in a game this season. Bryan Reynolds, Spencer Horwitz and Tommy Pham led the Pirates with three hits each. Pham also drove in three runs.
Starting pitcher Bailey Falter earned his sixth victory of the season, despite allowing five walks in the game. He allowed all three Rangers runs while pitching into the sixth inning.
The Pirates begin a three-game series in Milwaukee tonight. First pitch is 7:40pm. Pre-game on WISR is 7:15pm.
The Pirates are expected to give rookie Braxton Ashcraft his first major league start tonight. He has pitched 11-2/3rds innings out of the bullpen since his call-up from Triple-A Indianapolis and has allowed just two runs.
