The Houston Astros defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 11-9 last night. After the Bucs built a 9-3 lead in the seventh inning, the Astros scored eight runs off the Pirates bullpen. Gregory Soto took the loss after allowing the final three runs while not recording an out in the eighth inning in relief of Mason Montgomery, who also allowed three runs in that inning. All six Astros runs came with two outs in that inning.
Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes did not make it through the fifth inning, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out seven.
Henry Davis hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. Nick Gonzales hit a home run in the seventh inning. The Pirates have now had a home run in 10 consecutive games, totaling 22 in that span.
The two teams play the final game of their three-game series tonight at 8:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:45pm. Jared Jones will make his second start since returning from the Injured List tonight for the Bucs.
