The Chicago Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 in 10-innings Sunday, and took three of four games from the Bucs in the series. All three games were decided by one run and two went to extra-innings. The Pirates won their lone game of the series Friday afternoon 2-1 in 10-innings.
Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller allowed two runs on three hits over six innings. David Bednar took the loss in the 10th-inning when he allowed the walk-off winner to score. The extra innings begin with a runner on second base. The Pirates managed four hits in the game, all singles. Two of the hits were from first baseman Spencer Horwitz.
The Pirates are off today and begin a three-game series in Detroit Tuesday.
They have fallen to 29-44 this season, and are now 15-1/2 games behind the first-place Cubs.
Rookie Mike Burrows pitched into the sixth inning of Saturday’s game, allowing one run and striking out eight.
