The Pittsburgh Pirates fired manager Derek Shelton Thursday after the team’s 12-26 start to the 2025 season and their current seven-game losing streak. Shelton had gone 306-440 since taking over the Pirates team prior to the 2020 season. After back-to-back 100-loss seasons in 2021 and 2022, the Pirates have gone 76-86 the last two years.
Don Kelly will take over as the team manager for the remainder of the season. He is a western Pennsylvania native, who was born in Butler County.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:15pm.
