The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 last night in the opening game of their three-game series with the division rivals. The win was the second in a row for the Bucs. They had 14 hits in the game last night, after having 15 hits Sunday afternoon against Texas.
Nick Gonzales led the Bucs with a five-hit night, including two doubles. He is now batting .320. Tommy Pham followed a three-hit game Sunday with two more hits, including his first home run as a Pirate. He drove in two runs and scored twice. The Bucs did strike out 16 times in the game.
Braxton Ashcraft started his first major league game and allowed one hit over three innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out three. He was limited to 35 pitches after pitching strictly out of the bullpen since being called up to the big-leagues.
The Bucs and Brewers play again tonight at 7:40pm. WISR pregame begins at 7:15pm.
…Despite the 29 hits over the past two games, the Pirates are still an MLB-worst in Slugging Percentage and have produced the least amount of runs in the majors.
