The Pittsburgh Pirates shutout the Washington Nationals 2-0 last night at PNC Park. Carmen Mlodzinski pitched six innings of two-hit ball. He walked two and struck out five to earn his first victory of the season. He lowered his ERA to 1.77 over four starts, which leads all Pirate starting pitchers.
The Pirates actually used reliever Mason Montgomery to start the game. He allowed a double, but stranded that runner. Dennis Santana earned his second save of the season by closing out the ninth inning. Reliever Gregory Soto struck out two of three batters in the eighth inning for his fourth “Hold” of the year.
Marcel Ozuna and Nick Gonzales each had doubles and drove in the Pirate runs. Ryan O’Hearn had the Pirates other three hits.
The Bucs and Nationals complete their series this afternoon at 12:35pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 12:10pm. Braxton Ashcraft will start for the Pirates.
