The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 last night in the opening game of a three-game series at PNC Park. Paul Skenes had a no decision, but was strong after allowing three hits and two earned runs in the third inning. He went six innings, striking out eight.
Evan Sisk earned his first victory with the Pirates after a perfect seventh inning with two strikeouts. Dennis Santana earned his eighth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
The Pirates were aided by sloppy play from Toronto, scoring three runs late thanks to three errors and a wild pitch. Catcher Henry Davis scored what would be the winning run after a double in the seventh inning. He was bunted to third and scored on the wild pitch.
Both teams had six hits in the game, but the Pirates still left 10 men on base and went 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position.
The Bucs host the Blue Jays again tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Pirates. Max Scherzer will start for Toronto.
