The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Phillies Friday Night, 5-4.
The Pirates won the game on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Nick Gonzales in the 9th inning. With two runners on, Isiah-Kiner Falefa executed a bunt for a base hit to load the bases with no outs, allowing the Pirates an easy opportunity to seal the game.
David Bednar earned the save after pitching a clean 9th inning. Starting pitcher Bailey Falter had been pulled in the 4th inning after allowing 4 runs in 3.2 innings of work.
The Pirates and Phillies play again today at 4:05 PM. WISR Pre-game is at 3:40 PM.
High School Lacrosse
The Mars Boys will face Allentown Central Catholic in the state Class 2A Quarterfinals today in Mechanicsburg at 2 PM.
College Golf
Two BC3 golfers have been named All-Americans following the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national championships. Jacob Marquardt and Taylor Voloch earned the honors after being among the 18 golfers with the lowest scores in the Men’s and women’s tournaments played on Chautauqua Golf Club’s Lake Course in Chautauqua, NY.
Marquardt shot a 68 on Thursday, finishing 7th in the tournament. Voloch finished 14th, becoming BC3’s first women’s All-American in golf.
