The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Diego Padres 7-1 last night at PNC Park. Paul Skenes took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the game. He pitched into the seventh inning before allowing the first home run of the year by a Pirates starting pitcher. He allowed just two hits and that run over 6-1/3rd innings. Skenes walked two and struck out six.
The Pirates had 12 hits in the game. Brandon Lowe was the only starter who did not have a hit. He was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Oneil Cruz had a two-run double. Ryan O’Hearn and Konnor Griffin had two hits each. Griffin and Nick Gonzales drove in two runs and each scored a run. The Pirates went 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
The Bucs have now won six of their last seven games. They complete their three-game series with the Padres this afternoon at 12:35pm. WISR pre-game begins at 12:10pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Pirates.
The Pirates are off Thursday, then begin a three-game series in Chicago with the Cubs this weekend. They are right back home for a seven-game homestand Monday.
