According to Jon Holtz – Director of Athletic Communications at SRU – the Slippery Rock University football program announced one of the largest recruiting classes in program history with 49 new additions Wednesday on National Signing Day. The Rock welcomed 10 mid-year transfer students in January that are already on campus and will participate in spring practices. SRU also announced the signings of 39 incoming high school students Wednesday on the annual National Signing Day.
The Rock’s 10 mid-year players include multiple standouts from Division III programs, including an all-conference offensive lineman, running back and wide receiver. The high school class includes eight players that either won a state title or played on a team that was a state runner-up.
The high school class is headlined by a three-star athlete in two-time Big 22 Player of the Year Juelz Johnson from state runner-up Farrell. The class also includes numerous players that were all-state honorees and more than 30 players that were at least all-conference honorees at their high school.
The total class, including the 10 transfers, includes players from six different states with athletes coming from Pennsylvania (36), Ohio (8), New York (2), Michigan (1), Maryland (1) and Virginia (1).
Among the local high school standouts staying local:
–Delathian Boanes a defensive lineman from Grove City. He is a past Grove City Athlete of the Year and record holder in shotput. Boanes will also compete for SRU Track & Field.
–Seneca Valley offensive lineman Cayden Parker from Cranberry Township.
–Defensive lineman Qualin Davis of New Castle and his teammate Chase Lemmon, a wide receiver.
Along with multiple athletes from top football programs like Aliquippa, Clairton and Farrell.
