The 126th U.S. Open begins today at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. J.J. Spaun won last year’s tournament played at Oakmont Country Club.
Butler graduate Hunter Swidzinski shot an opening-round even-par 70 at the Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown Wednesday. Hunter was three over par for the first 10 holes, but birdied three of the final four holes to complete his opening round. He is five strokes behind two leaders at 5-under par.
