With the changing seasons and upcoming holidays, Butler Health System’s infectious disease director is reminding residents to continue to be vigilant about limiting the spread of COVID-19.
“We have not turned the corner on this. We are seeing an uptick in infections, and people going lax in their approach to this, in part because I think everyone is tired,” Dr. John Love said.
Dr. Love says local medical personnel and hospital staff members are ready to deal with whatever situations they encounter but residents can help minimize the strain on the system by following precautions.
“We’re asking for some help. We’re asking people to take a little empathy, a little responsibility, and a little inconvenience. We’re not asking for this forever. I’m hoping we’re only asking for this for another six to nine months until a vaccine is available,” Love said.
Dr. Love thinks that some people have just gotten tired of the stress of having to be extra careful around people who are not obviously sick but still may be contagious.
“When you are around people who are not from your household, who you are not basically consigned to sharing infectious particles with, we should be wearing a mask. This is for our own safety and for the safety of those around us,” Love said.
