A bill has passed the State House that would give children who attend low performing public schools financial assistance to move to a private or religious school.
Specifically, this bill is for students attending schools in the bottom 15 percent of performance metrics in Pennsylvania. Republican State Representative Aaron Bernstine details the bill.
“It provides students an opportunity to go to a different school and transfer so the money follows the student to go into these other school districts, private school, or wherever they choose to go,” Bernstine said.
Advocates of the bill say that a student’s academic success should not be based on their zip code.
