Pennsylvania State Police are reminding pet owners to protect their pets as temperatures rise for the summer.
The Animal Cruelty Unit of the state police is reminding pet owners that it is state law to provide pets kept outdoors basic needs.
This includes providing clean water, shaded areas and more. If these basic needs are not met, violators of the law can face criminal charges.
Dogs that are tethered outside can only do so for up to nine hours in temperatures below 90 degrees, when temperatures are above 90 they can only withstand 30 minutes.
Police also say that leaving a dog in the car may not be illegal, but law enforcement may enter a vehicle if they believe a dog is in danger.
