Motorists heading out today for an early start on the holiday weekend should expect plenty of company.
AAA forecasts traffic to be heavy today and Friday- especially from noon to 9 p.m.- as holiday travelers mix with commuters.
According to the annual AAA Memorial Day Travel Forecast, over 45 million Americans will mark the unofficial start of their summers with a long holiday weekend getaway, with the possibility of breaking the record of 44 million travelers in 2005.
Overall, air travel is expected to increase by 2% over last year’s figures while road travel could rise by three percent in the mid-Atlantic region. With demand for gas increasing, motorists should expect prices at the pump to follow suit.
