
The Butler City Fire Department is adopting a dog from the Butler County Humane Society today.
After firefighters attended a meeting last month to provide details about their request, Council approved a motion Thursday night to officially establish terms of an agreement with the firefighter union.
The firefighters have chosen a one-year-old Pitbull/terrier mix named Arlo and have consulted a professional dog trainer who has offered to provide instruction. The dog will be owned by a firefighter and all costs will be covered by the firefighter’s union.
The firefighters believe that having a dog will help with improving morale as well as decreasing stress. At some point in the future, the dog could be included in community engagement activities.
