Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit against an A.I. company for its chatbots representing themselves as licensed medical professionals.
The lawsuit claims that Character AI chatbots tell users they are licensed psychiatrists in the commonwealth and provide invalid license numbers.
Pennsylvania is requesting that the court orders the company to halt this practice immediately.
In statement from Governor Josh Shapiro, he said the AI tool will “mislead people into believing they are receiving advice from a licensed medical professional.”
Last year, Character AI announced it would direct distressed users to mental health resources.
