Elton John is returning to Mexico City for the first time in 14 years, announcing two farewell concerts at Estadio Banorte on October 2nd and 3rd. The shows come three years after John concluded his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour. Though he has performed private and benefit shows since retiring from touring in 2023, these mark his first formal arena dates since then. “Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart,” John said, adding that the pandemic’s disruption to his Latin American tour made the return “especially meaningful.” Tickets go on general sale July 16th at 12:00 p.m. local time. John remains active musically, releasing Who Believes in Angels?, a 2025 collaborative album with Brandi Carlile. Story URL
U2 have released the video for “Street of Dreams,” the lead single from their upcoming 15th studio album. The Dublin band filmed in Mexico City near Plaza Santo Domingo, originally shooting atop a bus before a heavy rainstorm knocked out an on-site generator and halted production. The band relocated to a nearby apartment balcony to finish filming. The video also captures candid crew conversations, including a warning to Bono: “We don’t want you to get struck by lightning.” The album is being recorded with producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee. Bono previously described it as “a noisy, messy, unreasonably colorful album.” U2 are also celebrating their 50th anniversary, marking half a century since forming as Feedback in 1976. Story URL
The Ramones will receive an official 50th anniversary tribute on August 30 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. Actor John Travolta will host the event, which marks half a century since the band’s self-titled debut album. The celebration features the inaugural performance of supergroup Cretin Family, comprising Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone. “From the moment I first heard the Ramones, music was never the same,” said Tim Armstrong. Travis Barker called the Queens-bred band the “blueprint,” adding “punk rock wouldn’t be what it is today without them.” The evening also includes a screening of Carrie and a DJ set by artist Shepard Fairey, with proceeds benefiting cancer research.
