A bill that aims to provide funding to increase the availability of rural healthcare will head to the senate.
After passing by a vote of 194 to 8, State House Bill 157 advanced to the state senate.
The bill looks to give grant money to rural hospitals or designated medically underserved areas to licensed nurses and physicians to practice in those areas.
The money will be used to assist paying off student loans.
To be eligible, those applying would need to practice at a rural hospital for six months, be classified as full-time, and work in the hospital for a minimum of three years.
