Butler City Council is planning a temporary small increase to real estate taxes in order to meet their 2021 budget.
The total balanced budget currently sits at just over $11 million with a one-year increase of .75 mils to arrive at a 2021 tax rate of 44 mils.
The expected increase in revenue will be used to cover expenses such as the first $15,000 interest payment on the new City Fire Department ladder truck as well as debt service bond payments.
Director of Accounts and Finance Councilman Mike Walker spoke about parking revenue projections for next year.
“There’s a 90 percent chance that parking fees are going to go up,” Walter said. “At this time I’m reluctant to give an actual figure, because we’re still working through a lot of this at this time.”
“If we do go to an increase, it will be reflected in the budget as more revenue from the parking budget. That’s about the best I can say at this time.”
The budget is now available to the public for 30 days before a vote for final approval sometime before the end of December.
