
The Butler County Sheriff’s office is awaiting approval of an agreement with ICE to that would allow the agency to complete immigration duties in the county.
An executive order signed by President Donald Trump on January 20th ordered ICE to enforce the Immigration and Nationality Act “to the maximum extent permitted by law.”
Also know as the 287(g) Program, law enforcement can reach agreements with ICE to have officers trained for enforcement and removal operations such as jailing individuals, task forces, or warrant services for those currently in agency jail’s.
The sheriff’s office is awaiting a response from the secretary of Homeland Security.
