The former pastor of By His Grace Ministries was sentenced yesterday and paroled.
Two years ago, 69-year-old Herman Rushing Jr. was accused of sexually assaulting four children and a member of his congregation.
Yesterday, he pled no contest and was sentenced.
Rushing was immediately paroled after sentencing and will now serve house arrest, followed by probation.
After the sentencing the father of the victims said that at the last court hearing, Rushing was expected to agree to plead guilty but in the final moments changed his mind.
“In the courtroom he decided that he wasn’t going to [plead guilty], so we had to decide with the assistant district attorney whether we were going to take that or not,” the father said. “Since the judgement and sentencing wasn’t going to be different regardless, we decided to take it.”
Rushing will also have to register for life as a sex offender, which helped lead to the no contest plea.
