The state is making $25 million available for rural healthcare entities.
The funding is open for rural hospitals, healthcare providers, and other health facilities in select counties.
The money is to be used for purchasing supplies and equipment, as well as renovations.
Rural healthcare was recently the topic at a hearing in Washington this week. Congressman Mike Kelly weighed in.
“If you can’t exist in a small market, that’s not because you don’t want to be there. It’s because you can’t afford to be there. You can’t have the people in the lobby looking for help when you don’t have a doctor or nurse there to take care of them,” Kelly said. “It’s math. You’re not in rural areas because you can’t afford to be there. The cost of operation is ruining everybody.”
The Rural Health Transformation Program was recently launched and sets aside $50 billion in federal funding for rural healthcare organizations.
Applications for the Pennsylvania dollars can be submitted starting on May 1st, with the deadline of June 1st.
