Leaders of the state House of Representatives are using a rare emergency move to try and put a proposed amendment that would benefit victims of child-sex abuse.
This comes after a mistake from the Department of State prevented it from being on the ballot this spring.
So an emergency constitution amendment would be required for voters to make a decision on it in May. House Republicans and Democrats have agreed to the move, but Senate Republicans weren’t as committed, saying they will review the idea.
The bill would give survivors of decades-old sexual abuse a chance to sue their perpetrators and institutions that covered up the crimes.
