Karns City is proposing a slight tax increase and taking out a loan for this upcoming school year.
Superintendent Dr. Eric Ritzert said Butler County residents will see an increase in taxes by just over two mills, which works out to about $35 more per year.
Ritzert says the tax increase would bring in another $150,000 to the district, which would go to an elementary life skills special education program.
The school board also proposed a $5 million loan with NexTier Bank. $2.3 million will go toward a roof replacement project at the secondary school. The remaining amount could be used to replace the turf at the stadium, along with other improvements.
