The Knoch School District has resolved a controversial lawsuit concerning antidiscrimination protections.
The suit against the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission filed in March of 2025 argued the legality of the state’s investigation of complaints of discrimination involving sexual orientation, gender identity and expression because it goes beyond the intended law.
As part of the decision issued by the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, the PHRC acknowledged “the existence of male and female bathrooms and sports teams does not discriminate against any person or create an unfair educational practice.”
The decision also confirms that Knoch’s current policies can remain in place without an attempt by the PHRC to force the board to make changes.
Knoch did not seek financial damages but did spend $10,000 to bring the suit along with a district in Beaver County and State Representative Aaron Bernstine.
